The Auspicious Hill is Mangalagiri. Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is one of the eight important Mahakshetramsin India. The eight places where Lord Vishnu revealed himself are Sri Rangam, Srimushnam, Naimisam, Pushkaram, Salagamadri, Thothadri, Narayanasramam and Venkatadri. There are three NarasimhaSwamy temples in Mangalagiri. PanakalaNarasimhaSwamy temple is on the , Lakshmi NarasimhaSwamy is at the bottom of the temple and GandalaNarasimhaSwamy is at the top of the hill.
History
PanakalaNarasimhaSwamy: The temple of Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy is situated on the hill. The steps provided on the right side to reach the temple. There is a stone engraving by Sri Krishnadeva Raya of Vijayanagar and also there is foot prints of Mahaprabhu Chaitanya. In the midway of the steps Lord Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamytemple is there, which has only the face with the mouth widely opened. After that there is the temple of Sri Lakshmi, to the west of which there is a tunnel which is believed to lead to Vundavalli caves on the banks of the Krishna. The stone engraving of the kings of Vijayanagar relate to the defeat of Rayalu over Kondapalli etc.
Lakshmi NarasimhaSwamy: At the foot of the hill, Lakshmi NarasimhaSwamy temple is there, whose origin is traced to the time of Yudhishtira, the eldest of the pandavas. Yudhishtira is the founder of this temple and the god here is called Sri Lakshmi NarasimhaSwamy. It has one of the highest gopurams in South India and the height is 153 feet and 49 feet wide with 11 storeys, and gates facing east and west. This great and impressive tower dwarfs the central shrine.
Gandalayam: On the top of the hill, there is no idol for the god. People believed that if anyone gets distresses, then they go and lamp the deepam by cow ghee to lose the distresses. This lamp is visible from many villages.
