
Bhadrachalam Temple of Lord Rama, situated on the banks of Godavari River. It is situated 312 kilometres in the east of state capital, Hyderabad.BhadrachalamSitaRamachandraswamy temple, the most famous temple in the country devoted to Lord Rama. This temple is one of the DivyaKshetrams of Godavari and is also admired as DakshinaAyodhya.
There are three parts in the temple. The first is whispered to be the head of Bhadra where a temple is devoted to him. The second is sanctum where the moolavarexist in on a place equivalent to Bhadra’s heart. The third one is the Rajagopuram which is found at Bhadra’s feet.
History
PokalaDhammaka,a disciple of Lord Sri Rama lives near Bhadrachalam. Once she had seen an idol in her dream, which is situated in a forest. The next morningspotted the place that she had seen in her dream and started doing pooja to the idol of Lord Sri Rama with Seetha and laxmana. She built a small temple for Lord Sri Ramachandra. The present temple at Bhadrachalam was buit by Bhakta Ramdas and his actual name is Sri KancharlaGopanna.
Sri KancharlaGopannais also a disciple of Lord Sri Ramachandra, who was born to Linganna Murthy and Kamamba in 1620 A.D inNelakomdapalli village. He used to sing songs to praise Lord Rama.Akkanna, nephew ofGopannahad appointed as Tahsildar to the region Bhadrachalam ( tax collector officer) in the court of Sultan Abdul Hasan Tana Shah of Golconda. When Gopanna visited the temple and he felt very bad of its shape. So he had decided to reconstruct the Temple for Lord Sri Rama. He started the construction of temple with tax revenueand reached final stage. At that time funds were not enough to place “sudarshana chakra” at the crest of main temple. Ramdas worried and went into deep meditation. Lord Rama appeared before him and asked to dip in river Godavari. Ramdas was shocked and he dipped in Godavari. He found “Sudharshana Chakra” in the river. Then he completed the construction of temple successfully.
The Nawab of Golconda was very angry on Ramdas, since he used the tax revenue for the building temple. Ramdas was imprisonneduntill he pay backs the money. Ramdas started singing songs on Lord Rama. Ramoji and Laxmojicame as the soldiers of Ramdas and paid the amount to Nawab of Golcondaand asked him to release their disciple and they vanished. This scene was occurred in the dream of NawabTanishah, and afterwards he understood that Ramdas was acquitted. Tana shah then realised the Ramadas and realised that the two men in disguise were Rama and Laxmana.
Ramdas was released and Tanishah offered total amount to him. But Ramdas refused and took only two coins from it as a mark of Divine. Tanishah sent the total amount to temple. From that day the State Government of Andhra Pradesh is sending gifts and materials for Kalyanotsavam of Seetha Rama on the time of “Sri Rama Navami” festival.
