Kanaka Durga Temple is a renowned Temple of Goddess Durgasituated in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The temple is located on the Indrakeeladri hill, on the banks of Krishna River. Kaalikapuraana, Durgaasapthashati and other vedic literature have revealed about Goddess Kanaka Durga on the Indrakeelaadri and have defined the divinity as Swayambhu, in Triteeyakalpa.
History
The temple was built for Goddess Durga by Arjuna. Arjunabelieved that he could get the astra (Paashupata) only by the grace of Kanaka Durga. So he worshipped her and called her as Brahmaastreshwari. Arjuna is also known as Phalguna. Since he did penance here, this place is also called as Phalgunikshetra. In Kaliyuga, AadiShankaraacharya, in order to mollify the concerted form of Kanaka Durga, mounted Shri Chakra and worshipped her.
The temple conquers a vital place in the scriptures as a number ofthe Siva-leelas and Shakti-mahimas were endorsed on or around it. It is declared in the Vedas that the deity in the Kanakadurga temple is considered as ‘Swayambhu’ or self-manifested, hence very powerful.
