Srikalahasti Temple is situated in Srikalahasti. The most famous Shiva temples in South India, and is said to be the place where Kannappa was ready to offer both his eyes to cover blood flowing from the Sivalinga before the Lord Siva stopped him and approved him mukti.
History
The initial structure of this temple was built by the Pallava dynasty in the 5th century. The creation of Srikalahasthi temple is many years of centuries. Around the 10th century, the Chola kings modernized the temple and built the main structure.
The temple acknowledged donations from various ruling dynasties like Cholas and Vijayanagar Empire. The hundred pillared hall with complicated carvings was custom-made during the administration of Krishnadeva Raya during 1516 AD.
